This article will walk through what we consider to be highly respected certifications that could be considered at degree level for work purposes. The certifications discussed here would be in addition to those covered under professional qualifications article. Those are considered to be more academic focused while these are specifically occupational.
There are tons of certifications out there, so we will try to narrow down the few that really stands out and have some level of industry recognition.
1. Computing - It's pretty safe to say that Computing or IT has the most certifications in the market place nowadays. That means it's best to cover that first and zero in on the really good ones. The first one we like in the networking side is the Cisco CCIE. General Computing could consider the ICCP - CCP credential as it gives a good foundation in the field. The most interesting and very vendor neutral certification we can find in computing is the Open Group - Certified IT Architect Or IT Specialist credential. This one has the potential to fit you in at the Bachelors and even Masters level for most jobs in IT. Do a search in Google for other certifications that may fit at these levels. If you don't have any academic qualifications, we would recommend getting the ICCP-CCP then either the CCIE or Open group qualifications. This would give you a more balanced credential profile.

The first one to consider under the telecommunications side of things is the NARTE - Certified Engineer track. This certification represents a good balance of theory with the exam plus the experience requirements.
